Real Opportunity Lies Within; the Current Business Community

“Real opportunity lies within the current business community.” These were the words spoken by Rob Dixon, newly appointed Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, while addressing a gathering of economic developers from across the state at a recent event. Mr. Dixon went on to say how our retention program statewide is strong and our best opportunity for growth lies in finding out how we can help existing businesses grow.
In Moniteau County, existing businesses are growing. Several area businesses are in the process of business expansions and there has been some interest in new development. To expand on what Rob Dixon said, we should constantly be trying to find out how we can help the businesses we have thrive. We must find out if there are any issues they are facing that is hindering their growth and dealing with those issues. That is one purpose of the Moniteau County Regional Economic Development Council (MRED). To carry that even further, we believe that local entrepreneurs can help us grow even more.
In addition, future plans are to support local entrepreneurship by partnering with other programs. Our goal is to help entrepreneurs take a business idea all the way to an active business. We have an excellent quality of life here in Moniteau County. And, as was pointed out in the last MRED Corner, Moniteau County has the 8th lowest cost of living in the state of Missouri and the 641st lowest in the country. We have a strong business community that is becoming even stronger and will continue to do so as long as we nurture it.
