Recreation

Parks: Moniteau County is the home to several parks. California’s four city parks include an indoor pool, children’s play areas, walking track, disk golf, fishing, basketball and tennis courts, sand volleyball and shelters with barbeque pits. Tipton boasts a community swimming pool plus a park with a playgrounds, fishing lake, and ballfields.

The Tipton Country Club has a 9-hole golf course, plus tennis courts, swimming pool and a clubhouse with year-round activities for members.

Easy access to recreation opportunities set in some of the appealing scenery you’ll find anywhere is one key to Moniteau County’s allure.

Moniteau County’s ideal central Missouri location provides nearby access to:

Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks – a 54,000 acre lake with 1,150 miles of shoreline on the Osage River. Boating, fishing and camping combine with shopping, dining and a casually fun night life on the lake that’s simply known as “The Lake”.

Missouri River – Numerous Missouri River access points are an easy drive from anywhere in Moniteau County. The Missouri River provides opportunities for fishing as well as many scenic vistas.

Streams and Rivers – There is an abundance of streams and rivers nearby for fishing and floating. Tipton is 4 miles north of Manito Lake, an 80 acre lake surrounded by 800 acres of upland wildlife area owned and managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Katy Trail State Park – At 237 miles, Katy Trail State Park (formerly the MKT rail line) is the nation’s longest “rails-to-trails” project, stretching east-west across most of the state. Perfect for bikers, hikers, and runners, much of the Trail coincides with Lewis and Clark’s Missouri River path, while the rest of the flat, scenic trail travels across farmland and through small-town Missouri.

Entertainment: Sports, Theater, and the Arts – Outdoor recreation is not the area’s only entertainment option.

  • The University of Missouri – Columbia campus, home of many NCAA Div-I athletic programs, is within a one-hour drive.
  • Kansas City and St. Louis are the proud homes of two World Series-winning MLB teams, a storied NFL franchise, professional soccer and hockey, and a NASCAR speedway.
  • The area is also rich in the Arts, with music, theater, galleries, and  arts venues of all types, all within an easy day trip.
